Few interesting facts about the earth’s natural satellite(which you didn’t know)

The moon of the earth is the only body which revolves around the planet and can be termed as the only natural and permanent satellite. All the planets have satellites of their own but Moon is the fifth largest among them and the largest out of all the satellites of the similar size which revolves around their respective planets.

1. The moon lacks atmosphere

Earth has its own atmosphere but on the other hand it’s satellite or the moon lacks atmosphere. The moon is not protected from the harmful cosmic rays, solar winds and meteoroids unlike earth. This absence of atmosphere leads to lack of sound on moon.

2. The moon shows the same side always to the earth

The human beings from earth’s satellite see oy one face of the Moon (always). The reason is that with the earththe moon faces synchronous rotation. Moon’s faces are marked with volcanic maria. The maria fills the giant space between the prominent craters and bright Highlands.

3. The moon drifts away from the planet Earth

Every year the moon is moving 3.8 cm far away from the earth. For the next 50 billion years it is expected to move in the same manner away from the earth.

4. The United States of America considered to detonate a bomb on the permanent satellite of earth (nuclear bomb)

This is a true statement that in the 1950s USA considered to detonate a nuclear bomb on the satellite. This secret project was called “project A119”.

5. The moon faces its own type of quakes, which is called moonquakes

The just earthquake are faced by the Earth, the moonquakes are faced by moon. The gravitational pull creates this earthquake. Moonquakes were experienced by different astronauts who visited the moon with seismographs.
