Government Asks Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to vacate Lutzens’ Zone VIP Bungalow after withdrawal of SPG Cover

The Housing and Urban Ministry Affairs on Wednesday asked Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to vacate her Delhi’s government bungalow by August 1. The Centre has cancelled Priyanka’s accommodation at 35 Lodhi Estate following the withdrawal of her SPG Protection. In an official statement, the Centre states –

“Consequent upon withdrawal of SPG protection and grant of Z+ security cover by Ministry of Home Affairs, which does not have provision for allotment/retention of government accommodation on security ground to you, the allotment of Type 6B house number 35, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi is hereby cancelled with effect from 01/07/2020.”

The Union Home Ministry reviewed the SPG security in the country last year. After which, the protection was replaced with CRPF security for Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyaka Gandhi Vadra. Now these three have Z Plus security, that too with CRPF. Now as the government has asked her to vacate the bungalow failing which “will attract damage charges/penal rent as per rules.”

Soon after the government’s decision, the Congress party has been fumed and many leaders are protesting. The Congress Chief Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted –

“PM Narendra Modi and his Government are blinded by rage, hatred and revenge against the Congress leadership. Unnerved by political activism of Priyanka ji in UP, Modi Government has stooped even further by issuing house vacation notice. Such frustrated attempts will not deter us.”

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has also asked to withdraw this decision. Ms. Vadra was allotted the bungalow in 1997 at Lodhi Road.
