ED officials take Partha Chatterjee to AIIMS Bhubaneshwar

On Monday, the Special Court of Kolkata granted the Enforcement Directorate officials custody of the former education minister of West Bengal, Mr.Partha Chatterjee, and his aide Arpita Mukherjee till August 3. The court also ordered regular medical check-ups to be conducted after an interval of every 48 hours.

The ED officials had previously informed the court that Mr.Partha Chatterjee had been arrested because of an alleged school job scam and has chronic health issues but does not require hospitalization. The ED officials have asked for 14 days of custody permission.

Mr.Partha Chatterjee will be brought to the Enforcement Directorate office at CG Complex in Salt Lake, Kolkata, on Tuesday morning, said the ED officials. The ED officials had asked for 14 days’ custody of Chatterjee, stating the medical report provided by AIIMS Bhubaneshwar after the examination of the minister was presented on a Calcutta High Court order affirmed that no active intervention is required currently over his health.

Rejecting a bail request of the minister, the ED Court judge, Jibon Kumar Sadhu at Bankshall court, provided the required permission for the ED custody of the minister and his aide Arpita Mukherjee till August 3. The court passed its order which came around 11 pm, that the two accused persons were to be arrested on July 22 and produced before the court again on August 3.

The ED prayed for 14 days of custody of Chatterjee, claiming that he was in a state-run SSKM hospital and was faking his illness so that the ED officials could not interrogate him during the two-day remand granted by the CMM in-charge court on Saturday.
