Shocked and dismayed, US President Joe Biden condemns Salman Rushdie’s “vicious attack.”

US President Joe Biden responded to the attack on author Salman Rushdie on Saturday, saying he was “shocked and saddened” by the tragedy. He described it as a “vicious attack,” adding that “people worldwide are praying for his health and recovery.”

Salman Rushdie, an Indian-born author, was stabbed as he prepared to deliver a lecture at Western New York’s Chautauqua Institute on Friday. Rushdie was airlifted to a hospital and underwent surgery to treat his injuries.

The US President stated in his statement that Salman Rushdie, with his insight into people, unrivaled sense of story, and unwillingness to be bullied or silenced, represents important, universal ideas. Truth. Bravery. Resilience. The opportunity to freely discuss ideas.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan termed the attack on Rushdie “reprehensible” in a separate statement.  Sullivan further stated that this is a heinous act of violence, and the Biden-Harris Administration is all praying for his quick recovery.

Meanwhile, Rushdie’s book agent, Andrew Wylie, stated that the author might lose an eye as a result of the attack. After being stabbed in the torso, Rushdie’s nerves were cut, and his liver was destroyed, according to Wylie.

Hadi Matar, the attacker, is charged with attempted murder and assault. Law enforcement conducted a preliminary assessment of Matar’s social media accounts, which revealed that he was sympathetic to Shia radicalism and the causes of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The NYSP is collaborating with the FBI and local authorities to determine the motive.
