NATO Secretary General joins international leaders at the United Nations General Assembly.

On Tuesday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with Moldovan President Maia Sandu in a bilateral discussion to discuss Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and to reaffirm NATO’s continuous support for partner countries, including Moldova. The NATO Secretary General is set to meet and exchange ideas with other leaders and officials in New York.

Mr. Stoltenberg responded to the declaration that the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic” and “Luhansk People’s Republic” will hold referendums on joining Russia, saying that “mock referendums have no legitimacy and do not change the essence of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.” This is a more escalation in Putin’s war. The international community must denounce this flagrant breach of international law and increase its support for Ukraine.”

NATO and the United Nations are committed to world peace and security, and their cooperation has grown over the last decade. NATO Allies adopted a new Strategic Concept earlier this year, reinforcing the Alliance’s aim to maintain a global vision and collaborate closely with partners, including international organizations.
