A BJP youth wing worker was sentenced to death by two bike-borne attackers on Tuesday night in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district, reported to the police on Wednesday.
The youth has been identified, and his name is Praveen Nettaru, a BJP Yuva Morcha worker who was the owner of a poultry shop. The incident took place in the village of Bellare under the Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada at the time of 9.30 pm, reported the police officials.
A tense situation is currently prevailing in Bellare after the murder, and the police have shut down all shops, hotels, and establishments in the area among protests by the people of Bellare. Chief Minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai, condemned the killing of Praveen and promised that the accused would be arrested and punished as per laws.
As per the report of the police officials, Praveen had just shut down his shop when he saw two men on a Kerala-registered motorcycle rushing toward him, and he ran towards the neighbouring shop to escape the bikers. However, they hit Praveen with a machete on his head before escaping from the spot. Praveen was immediately shifted to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, said the official.
