Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is discharged from a Florida hospital.

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was released from the hospital and arrived at a residence in Orlando, Florida.

Bolsonaro was admitted to a hospital in Florida on Sunday due to abdominal pain. On Monday, he tweeted a photo of himself from a hospital bed as several US lawmakers called for his expulsion from the country following attacks on Brazil’s government buildings by his supporters.

Bolsonaro stated that he was being treated for complications from an old stab wound. Previously, his wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, stated on Instagram that he was admitted to the hospital for abdominal “discomfort” caused by injuries sustained in a knife attack at a political rally in 2018.

Bolsonaro was hospitalized after hundreds of his supporters stormed the Brazilian capital of Brasilia on Sunday, trashing government buildings and drawing harsh condemnation from the international community. According to Brazilian Justice Minister Flavio Dino, about 1,500 people had been arrested as of Monday.

The former leader condemned the attack in a tweet on Sunday, but experts say his repeated and unfounded claims of election fraud in the run-up to the October election only served to inflame his supporters. They had been camped out in the capital for months prior to the violence on Sunday, and security around the congressional building had been beefed up due to their presence.

Bolsonaro left Brazil for the United States on December 30, just two days before the inauguration of his successor, President Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silva. From January 1 to 30, five civil servants were authorized to accompany him to Miami.
