CBI Investigations on CBI – Everything you want to know

On Sunday the CBI chief Alok Verma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to brief about the infamous bribery case. It involved the “Next in line” for the post of CBI Head – Special Director Rakesh Asthana. It is important to mention here that, many believe that the prime minister himself has appointed Mr Rakesh Asthana as the deputy at CBI.

The bribery case has its roots at another probe. According to the accusations, Special Director Rakesh Asthana has demanded a bribe in order to let the Hyderabad Bussiness man off the hook in the corruption investigation of meat exporter Moin Qureshi. Businessman Mr Sathish Sana alleged that the deputy of CBI Mr Asthana has demanded 5 crores as bribery. His claim was the root for the FIR against Mr Rakesh Asthana. According to the CBI, the businessman has told a magistrate that over the course of 10 months from last December, Sathish Sana has bribed Mr Asthana an amount of 2 Cr INR.

Chief Alok Verma’s opposition against Mr Rakesh Asthana to being appointed as No. 2 started the infight of CBI. The main reason behind the opposition is the alleged involvement of Mr Rakesh in huge loan default involving the Gujarat-based company Sterling Biotech. While Mr Rakesh Asthana has accused of being framed, only the further investigations will prove the reality. 

Arrests involving the CBI Probe on CBI

CBI arrested their officer Devender Kumar on Monday and Manoj Prasad a Dubai-based businessman on October 16. Devender Kumar is the one who allegedly worked with Mr Asthana and also accused of making false statements against the Central Bureau of Investigation director. The phone conversation between Manoj’s brother and Mr Rakesh Asthana came to light just after Manoj Prasad’s arrest. The father of the brothers is an officer at R&AW. The CBI says the investigations will further into the R&AW department. The case has triggered the political turmoil for the BJP. Accusations galore that what once used to be a premier investigation agency has now become a joke.
