New Delhi: India today took big step with protecting net neutrality in country with US having conflicting chaos on net issue over the Ajit Pai’ raised voice.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) today issued net neutrality in India where upon in recommendations, TRAI said that the Internet being open platform and that Internet is services delivered by companies should be done in a non-discriminatory manner, based on content alone, with no entity to interrupt equal access to internet to everyone. However TRAI forbade service providers from entering into any agreement with any agencies as to equal reasoning discriminatory in terms of internet access in the country with licensing terms should have details list of bias the provider may have in terms of providing content. With telecom companies and Internet services provider must declare their traffic management with effects to providing unhindered activity on the internet. IT seems Net neutrality defenders find themselves with huge win in India.
WHILE US SITUATION WITH NET NEUTRALITY ISSUE.
With bred decision of FCC Chairman Ajit Pai to reverse Obama era net neutrality (which meant that all websites are treated equally by Internet providers) for that he having fiery repulse from several Indian-American lawmakers for his proposal.
While Pai’s proposal triggered war like thing between him and first term Indian- American Congressman for Silicon Valley RO Khanna. Over which Khanna tweeted said “We need stronger net neutrality laws that ban forms of zero rating instead of weakening these laws” as was re tweeted an article form LA Times according to which “In Portugal, with net neutrality, Internet providers are starting to split the net into packages” as to FCC giving more corporation he said even more control over the media, paving the way for megamergers like Sinclair-Tribune. Have to fight for less consolidation to save our democracy was view from RO Khanna. Pai contested the Khanna statement “In addition to making the false assertion that Portugal has no net neutrality Congressman Khanna is pointing to an example that has nothing to do with net neutrality.
IT was not Khanna but Senator Kamala Harris reported that around 700,000 Californians and more than 8million Americans have comment in response to FCC’s misguided proposal and also adding that it only empower broadband services provider and distorting online marketplace and set up a pay for paly system. While Tulsi Gabbard a Frist Hindu lawmaker had same view as Harris with accusing FCC politics stated that ensuring those with money have a seat at the table and shutting out everyone else.
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal said with dismantling of net neutrality rules, the competition among new streaming services and content providers will be severely damaged.
“If these rules are repealed, your ISP will be able to charge you more to access certain content. Those with more money will get faster Internet service, or be able to access more of the Internet. Competition among new streaming services and content providers will be severely damaged. And we, the consumers, will pay for it,” she said.
Jayapal said, “The large corporations will have a freehand to charge discriminatory rates to benefit themselves, and limit the free speech and access of their consumers.”
As per Pai’s proposal which would end net neutrality giving biggies provider, like Comcast and Version broad power to determine what websites should reach to subscribers faster than others. Like till date laws are only thing preventing this US giants from gating and biasing network speeds for certain websites, serving whatever they feel like or charging you money for preferential access.
Pai’s proposal to dismantle net neutrality is scheduled to come out to vote before the FCC on 14th Dec.
What exactly is bout like situation over Net neutrality is all about
Simple terms doing away with net neutrality will allows telecom companies to serve up Internet like cable connection. Can imagine opening up Netflix, in your browser except instead of the webpage you will face message” Sorry you don’t have the Entertainment package active. Please pay $5 to purchase and activate the package now” how about it same will apply for You Tube, Amazon Prime Video, Hot star so on. Now it’s clear image but still worst can be if you got package done but website seem to buffer a lot slower on your net connection, that is essence is the bigger worry when considering doing away with Net Neutrality.
Hence Scenario can be much crucial on net neutrality in US as there only major telecom companies are allowed to provide connections as they don’t have small- scale cable operators to provide services like India.
However it not just the US problem it’s everyone problem, FCC has pretty much said that it doesn’t care what public thinks they just lending ears to Republican politicians and ISPs that would stand to gain from repealing the laws. Report as per India times and the Hindu.
