Donald Trump Expected To Plead Not Guilty Today In Hush Money Case

New York: Former US President Donald Trump will appear in court today to answer charges of making hush payments to porn star Stormy Daniels. Trump has stated that he is innocent and intends to enter a not-guilty plea before appearing in court.

Just five days after becoming the first former US president charged with a crime, Trump was given a court date.

Trump has started a comeback campaign for the White House. Trump will appear before a New York state grand jury, where he will be formally charged. Given the political uproar surrounding the case, the city’s police force, the US Secret Service, and other authorities are on high alert.

The twice-impeached Republican claims he is a victim of “political persecution.” Still, he also uses the case to galvanize his base of supporters and raise millions of dollars for his campaign to retake the White House next year.

Trump, 76, was charged last week by Democrat-elected Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Just days before his 2016 election victory, he is accused of paying Stormy Daniels, an actress specializing in adult films, $130,000.

Former Trump attorney and aide Michael Cohen, who has since turned against his former employer, claims that he paid Daniels for her silence regarding an alleged tryst between the two in 2006.

The affair was denied by Trump, whose third wife, Melania, had just given birth.
