At Salal-Haimana in the Reasi district of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), the Geological Survey of India has found 5.9 million tonnes of inferred resources (G3) of lithium, which is used to make electric vehicle (EV) batteries, for the first time in the nation.
Mines in the early exploration stages are also called G3 mines.
The discovery was announced on Twitter on Thursday by the ministry of mines.
It stated that during the 62nd Central Geological Programming Board meeting, Vivek Bharadwaj, the secretary of the mines ministry, delivered 16 geological reports and memoranda to state governments.
Mr.Bharadwaj stated during the meeting that the discovery of lithium reserves in the nation was unprecedented.
For further action, he gave J&K mining secretary Amit Sharma two geological reports on lithium blocks in Reasi.
With the discovery of the vital mineral lithium used in mobile and EV batteries, Sharma claimed that J&K had made the mining industry history.
