Govind Pansare murder case: Bombay HC transfers the investigating authority from SIT to ATS.

The Bombay high court on Wednesday announced that it would transfer the inquiry into the death of activist and CPI leader Govind Pansare from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).

The high court authorized the plea of Pansare’s kin seeking transfer of the inquiry procedure from SIT to ATS. The ATS will be assisted by a few officers of the State CID, the agency that has been analyzing the case to date, for continuity. Govind Pansare was shot on February 16, 2015, near his house in Kolhapur. He died four days later.

On Monday, the Maharastra government told the high court that it has no objection to transmitting the investigation from SIT to ATS. However, the bench had previously asked the state government to respond whether some officers of the ATS could be made officers at SIT instead of completely transferring the investigation of the 2015 killing of Pansare from “point zero.”

The division bench of Justice Revati Mohite-Dere and Justice Sharmila Deshmukh handed a decree in an application filed by Pansare’s daughter Smita and daughter-in-law Megha, wherein advocate Abhay Nevagi informed the court that the state police was unable to make any breakthrough in the case even after seven years of the crime incident.
