The World Health Organisation (WHO) has used its highest alert level to create concern regarding the Monkeypox virus. It further declared the virus a public health emergency with an international concern.
Monkeypox is an illness caused by the monkeypox virus.
This virus belongs to the same family of viruses that cause smallpox. Monkeypox is identified as a zoonotic viral infection, which means that it can spread from animals to humans. This virus can also transmit from one person to another person. This disease is becoming endemic in regions like West and Central Africa, but recent cases have also been reported from non-endemic countries, according to the World Health Organisation(WHO).
In India, in the capital city of Delhi, a 34-year-old man with no foreign travel records tested positive for monkeypox this Sunday. The previous three monkeypox issues were reported from the state of Kerala. They were increasing the total number of cases in India to four.
According to the reports by World Health Organisation, monkeypox is not as contagious as smallpox and does not cause severe illness. The incubation period of this virus or the time gap between the virus entering your body and the onset of the first symptom of the virus ranges from 6 to 13 days. However, in some cases, it can vary between 5 to 21 days.
To avoid the transmission of the monkeypox virus, one should avoid eating inadequately cooked meat or other animal products.
