India paid final salute with state funeral a tribute to Shashi Kapoor

Mumbai: The charmer known actor of 70’s and 80’s Shashi Kapoor in hands angels where skies opened its armed to the legendary Bollywood actor. The 79 year old actor was long been ailing, passed away at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.

His three children sons Kunal and Karan Kapoor while daughter Sanjana were there, also Kapoor family and scores of film personalities to bid final farewell to the actor who straddled the worlds of commercial and art house cinema. While dozen policemen draped his body in tricolor which later removed for rituals and was honored with three rounds of fire to the late actor who spent more than four decades in Hindi cinema.

The last rites of the veteran actor were held at Santacruz Hindu crematorium on Tuesday noon. A number of eminent Bollywood celebrities, such as Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, AbhishekBachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta, Naseeruddin Shah, RakeyshOmprakashMehra, Salim Khan along with Kapoor family members – Karan Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor (Shashi Kapoor’s sons), Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor were spotted arriving to pay their last respects.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed sorrow over the death of veteran actor Shashi Kapoor, saying his acting will be remembered for generations to come. “Saddened by the passing away of veteran actor Shashi Kapoor. He will always be remembered for the memorable roles he played in a number of films. May his soul rest in peace,” Naidu said on Twitter. Modi said Kapoor’s versatility could be seen in his movies as well as in theatre, which he promoted with great passion. “His brilliant acting will be remembered for generations to come. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers,” the PM tweeted.

Shashi Kapoor was a member of the famous Kapoor family. Born in Kolkata, Shashi were the third and the youngest son of late Prithviraj Kapoor and brother of late Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor. Shashi, his father and his brothers were all equally celebrated in the world of Hindi cinema. Married to Anglo-Indian theatre actress Jennifer Kendal, Shashi had three children — Kunal, Karan and Sanjana Kapoor.

Shashi underwent a cataract surgery in 2012.

His acting career began in the 1940s where he first appeared on screen as a child actor. Shashi was the recipient of 3 National Film awards and was honored with the Padma Bhusan in 2011 by the Government of India. He also received the Dadasaheb Phalke award, making him the third member of the Kapoor familyto have received the award after his father (Prithviraj Kapoor) and his older brother (Raj Kapoor). Shashi appeared in a total of 116 films out of which he played the protagonist in 61 of the movies.Shashi was equally adept at doing commercial and artistic roles. He started acting in plays written and directed by his father, Prithviraj Kapoor.  Shashi appeared as a child actor in films such as Aag (1948), Sangram (1950), Awaara (1951) and Dana Paani (1953). He has also acted in several English films in his career like The Householder and Shakespeare Wallah.  Shashi was one of the first Bollywood actors to venture into foreign films.

One of Shashi Kapoor’s most iconic roles was in the 1975 blockbuster Deewar which was directed by Yash Chopra. Shashi played the role of a committed cop pitted against his brother (essayed by Amitabh Bachchan) who is a part of the underworld. His famous dialogue of Joining the long list, Amul too had come up with their tribute to Shashi Kapoor in a own epic way.

Today Taking to Twitter Amul shared their latest doodle that feature a Shashi Kapoor caricature alongside the Amul girl. Playing with the most iconic as well as one of the most quoted comebacks in Indian cinematic history; the doodle had the caption, “Mere Paas Aapka Cinema Hai”
