At the UN Security Council on Monday, India made a barely disguised jab at China during a discussion on advancing global security via communication and collaboration.
Ruchira Kamboj, India’s representative to the UN, stated that “any coercive or unilateral action that aims to change the status quo by force is an affront to shared security.”
Also emphasized by Ms. Kamboj is the fact that international cooperation is only possible “when all nations stand united against common challenges like terrorism and do not practice double standards while preaching otherwise.”
Even though the envoy avoided naming any nations, the comment is significant given the impasse between India and China over the Chinese Army’s violations in eastern Ladakh, which has been going on since May 2020. After fierce battles with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley on June 15, 2020.
China served as the host country for the meeting.
Recently, China was accused by India’s foreign minister, S. Jaishankar, of disobeying border agreements. He added that the Galwan Valley impasse has been clouding relations between the two countries as they continue to go through a very trying time.
“Since the 1990s, we and China have had agreements that forbid large moving numbers of troops into the border region. They have overlooked that. You are aware of what took place in the Galwan Valley. That issue still exists, and it has been casting a shadow,” he said.
16 rounds of Corps Commander Level negotiations between India and China have already been held to end the situation.
