On Friday, clashes erupted between pro-Iran government fans and protesters at the country’s second World Cup match in Qatar.
Some protesting fans claimed their flags were confiscated, while others were yelled at and harassed.
T-shirts and other items displaying anti-government sentiments were also confiscated by stadium security.
Protests have swept Iran since the death of Mahsa Amini, 22, in September.
Morality police arrested Ms. Amini in Tehran for allegedly not properly covering her hair, and she died in police custody three days later. Protests spread across the country, with people demanding more freedoms or the overthrow of the state, and the government responded with a deadly crackdown.
Pro-government fans snatched Persian pre-revolutionary flags from protesters at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium on Friday, during Iran’s World Cup match against Wales.
Insults were also allegedly hurled at some people wearing T-shirts with the words “woman, life, freedom” – a phrase that has become a rallying cry among Iranian protesters against the government.
After pro-government fans complained, one Iranian spectator claimed that Qatari police ordered her to wash the names of protesters killed by Iran’s security forces from her arms and chest.
Another woman claimed she was denied entry to the stadium because she was wearing a T-shirt with Ms. Amini’s face on it.
