The official confirmed saying that ISRO is planning to double the launch frequency of satellite built by it with scaling up outsourcing to industry to meet growing demands. The director of ISRO Mylswamy Anndurai, director of ISRO satellite Centre (ISAC) the prime agency for realizing satellites for the Indian space programme said ISRO now launches 9to 10 space craft built by it per year as news per PTI “requirements have gone up. We also have to fill up the backlog. We are targeting to double the launch frequency to 18 per year from 2018-19”. He also added ISRO‘s experience with the industry has been reasonably good and vendors are very enthusiastic in increasing their contribution to the space programme.
IT was announced in end of October that by December ISRO will launch 30 satellites in single mission on board its Polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV) though one of the missions, whose main payload would be Cartosat-s series earth observation satellite, will be the first PSLV mission after the unsuccessful launch of navigation satellite IRNSS-1N in August. But it was ISRO chairman Kiran Kumar told reporters “we are planning our next launch in second half of December all things are in place it will be a satellite of Cartosat-2 series along with other co-passengers”.
According to ISRO said on Sunday that the participation of the industry in the realization of space systems such as spacecraft, launch vehicles, establishment and operations of ground support system and facilities, and implementation of application programmes for the benefit of end users seen major growth. So Kiran Kumar Chairman informed, they are doing as whatever it’s possible through industry as in coming days as they will need to do more frequent activities. As 80% of work relating to launch vehicle (rockets) is done by the industry whose contribution to the building of satellites is in the range of 30 to 35%. He encouraged saying efforts will be to keep increasing it as gradually as 8 to 10 % activities will be done within the organization rest ( outsourced to industry) As depending in the capability of the industry to take up boost more job, as it will be done as they become more and more capable then activities will shift to them. However ISRO is also looking at possibility of building a PSLV in a joint venture with set of industry partners by 2020-21. The chairman mentioned processes are on as they go through a number of clearances submitting to the government and getting back clearances as currently they are on that move. As ISRO is addressing to resolve blockage in increasing the launch frequency of satellites Kiran the chairman of ISRO said “If we are about to launch 12 to 18 launches per year launches per year that to progressively we will see what’s limiting that and then work on it. Right now second (launch) vehicle (rocket) assembly building is what is causing that and that’s getting ready and by the end of this year it should become operational”.
ISRO is been associated with more than 500 small medium and large scale industries while implementing various space programmes and about 300 technologies to Indian industries for commercialization.
