Jodhpur: Tension errupts following Eid clashes: know all about curfew, internet outage and more

In the Jalori Gate neighbourhood of Jodhpur, clashes erupted as both communities disagreed about hoisting religious flags.

1-On Tuesday, stone throwing and other forms of violence were recorded in many localities before police used force to bring the situation under control. The surroundings, on the other hand, are still tense.

2.According to the police control room, Udai Mandir, Nagori Gate, Khanda Phalsa, Pratap Nagar, Dev Nagar, Soor Sagar, and Sardarpura are among the police station limits where the curfew has been imposed until midnight tomorrow.

3-Internet services were suspended  in Jodhpur to prevent rumours from spreading, and the Eid namaz was held under police protection.

4.Jodhpur Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot appealed to the people to keep the peace. He convened a highlevel meeting to discuss the situation and dispatched senior officials by helicopter to Jodhpur.

5.”While respecting the Jodhpur, Marwar tradition of love and brotherhood, I make a heartfelt appeal to all parties to maintain peace and cooperate in restoring law and order,” he said in a tweet.

6-In Jodhpur, a three day Parshuram Jayanti festival is also underway, and religious flags raised by both communities sparked a major argument that escalated into clashes.

7.On Monday night, police used tear gas shells and sticks to disperse the crowd, which also attacked the local police station. According to the news agency PTI, at least five police officers were injured in the early hours of Tuesday due to stone-throwing.

8.The clashes are the latest in a wave of communal violence and tension across the country, which has been fueled in part by hateful speeches from religious and political leaders.

9.Such clashes have occurred in at least five states in recent weeks, including Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, as India observed Ram Navami, Hanuman Jayanti, and Ramadan.

10.The opposition, civil society, and activists have criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the growing strife, as well as the government’s efforts to quell it.
