Together with their National Disaster Response Force colleagues, a four-person dog squad from India is participating in rescue operations in earthquake-devastated Turkey (NDRF).
Four labradors make up the squad team: Julie, Romeo, Honey, and Rambo. Two different NDRF teams departed for Turkey on Tuesday, along with the dogs.
The squad has received specialized training to assist rescue operations and is an expert sniffer. The dog squad assists the NDRF teams in searching and rescuing people trapped under debris in the regions affected by the powerful earthquake that struck Turkey on Monday.
The dog squad has been very helpful in the rescue operations, according to Gurminder Singh, the Contingent Commander of the NRDF team in Turkey, who spoke to NDTV. Julie, the female dog, he claimed, was the one who recognized live victims and assisted the team in saving precious lives.
Many nations have sent dog teams with rescue teams to assist the nation.
More than 24,000 people have died, and thousands more have been injured in Turkey and Syria up to this point.
Karamanmaras and Antakya are two of the worst-hit areas in Turkey. The situation has gotten worse due to the extreme cold in the area. People’s survival has become difficult without food, electricity, essential medical supplies, and suitable housing. Rescue efforts are being conducted around the clock in the affected areas to look for people who may be buried beneath the debris of collapsed buildings.
In addition to the shocking death toll, the nation’s economy has also been negatively impacted. Turkey will receive $1.78 billion in aid from the World Bank to aid in relief and recovery efforts.
