Keshav Prasad Maurya, the deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, tweeted on Sunday, “The organization is greater than the government!” His tweet has sparked considerable political conjecture over who would be the future state BJP head, succeeding Swatantra Dev Singh, as the saffron party prepares for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
If Maurya is picked, one leader from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) will replace another, continuing the BJP’s current UP arithmetic. While the entire context of Maurya’s observations is unknown, his tweet is interpreted as a message. He may be willing to play a position in an organization rather than the government.
In Uttar Pradesh, Adityanath has two deputies: Maurya and Brahmin leader Brajesh Pathak. Among the candidates for state BJP chief is Dinesh Sharma, a Brahmin leader who served as deputy chief minister in the previous government under Maurya. As a result, caste will be one of the essential elements, as it remains politically relevant throughout UP.
According to a party leader, the BJP remains dominant in Uttar Pradesh. Its national leadership has prioritized good coordination between the party’s organizational machinery and state administrations for electoral success. According to sources, regional and caste considerations would also play a role in the party’s decision to replace Singh, a cabinet minister.
Following the BJP’s landslide victory in the recent assembly elections, Adityanath’s standing has risen. The party hopes to preserve its control over its divided opposition in India’s largest state, which was essential to its massive wins in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
