Parag Agrawal becomes CEO of Twitter, here’s how this IIT Mumbai alumnus became Jack Dorsey’s ‘first choice’

Twitter’s co-founder and CEO, Jack Dorsey, has stepped down, and IIT Bombay alumnus Parag Agrawal has been named the company’s new CEO. Parag Agrawal attended Central High School. He passed the joint admission examination with a 77th-place finish. He went on to Stanford University to pursue a doctorate in computer science.

Parag Agrawal, according to Dorsey, is a leader who leads with his heart and soul and is rational, creative, demanding, self-aware, and modest.

Mr Agrawal, who is now the S&P 500’s youngest CEO, recalled how he joined the firm a decade ago when it had only 1,000 people and thanked Jack Dorsey for his mentorship and friendship. On Monday, Mr Dorsey announced his departure as CEO.

“Thank you, Jack. I’m honoured and humbled. And I’m grateful for your continued mentorship and friendship,” the new CEO wrote.

“I joined this company 10 years ago when there were fewer than 1,000 employees. While, it was a decade ago, those days feel like yesterday to me…I see Twitter’s incredible impact, our continued progress, and exciting opportunities ahead of us,” he said.

Mr. Agrawal earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai. He continued his education in the United States, earning his doctorate from Stanford University in California.

Before joining Twitter in 2011, he worked for Microsoft, AT&T, and Yahoo. His work was largely research-oriented in all three companies. Initially, he worked on ad-related products at Twitter, but he eventually moved on to artificial intelligence.

In March 2006, Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams founded Twitter, which premiered in July of that year.
