Psychiatrist from California an Indian origin held remanded for bribing IRS.

Long Beach, California: Dr. Harshad Shah, a psychiatrist by profession was held back for bribing the IRS (Internal Revenue Service’s), found guilty was sentenced for four years in Federal prison for paying a $30,000 cash bribe to revenues agent during an audit of his returns. Dr. Harshad Shah 62is from Long Beach, California affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area.

Dr. Harshad Shah was convicted last year Oct2016 by a federal jury of one count of bribery of public official following five day trail according to department of justice press release and India abroad. According to press release after IRS revenue agent determined Shah owed $ 410,000 in back taxes, interest and penalties, as jury found Shah had paid a $30,000 cash bribe though Shah claimed during the trial that he was trapped by the agent. However US district judge Cormac J. Carney totally dismissed claims said that recording played during the trial showed that the agent had not induced shah to bride him.

Well Dr. Harshad was sentenced on Friday by US District Judge Cormac J Carney the US Attorney’s office said in written Statement. The press release noted “The government played multiple recording to Defendant’s own words at trial that demonstrated that Defendant was not induced by the Government to commit bribery, the recording provided direct evidence that defendant controlled the relationship with (IRS revenue agent) initiated the bribery offer, and continued to pressure (revenue agent) to accept the bribe despite (revenue agent) reluctance and multiple reminder that this conduct was illegal”.

As Carney remanded Shah to custody following the sentencing him of bribing the agent.
