Rishi Sunak, Boris Johnson camps claim hitting 100 MPs mark.

On Saturday, supporters of Rishi Sunak claimed that the Indian-origin former chancellor had reached the 100-member threshold required to make the shortlist for the race to replace Liz Truss as Conservative Party leader and British Prime Minister.

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s tally increased as he returned from his Caribbean vacation. His camp also claimed that he has a minimum of 100 MPs for a possible leadership bid.

Sunak and Johnson have neither officially declared their intention to run for Prime Minister, with Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt as the only candidate to do so thus far.

However, the former finance minister has taken a commanding lead, with some heavyweight Tory ministers and MPs from various factions of the Tory party throwing their support behind him, and betting odds continue to rise in his favor.

“Rishi had the right plan in the summer, and I believe he has the right plan now,” former deputy prime minister Dominic Raab told the BBC.

“I believe he is the best-positioned candidate to provide some stability and confidence to the millions of workers and businesses across the country,” he said.

It came as Johnson was photographed on a flight back to London from the Dominican Republic with his wife and children, indicating his intention to run for Prime Minister again.

The number of MPs publicly supporting his comeback stands at 53, with former Home Secretary Priti Patel among his high-profile supporters. His supporters are confident he will reach the 100-MP mark by 2 p.m. local time on Monday to make the shortlist.
