According to government sources, Indian and Chinese troops have completed their withdrawal from a critical standoff point in Ladakh. The process began on September 8th, following discussions between the two parties at the 16th round of corps commander level.
Last week, India and China announced a “coordinated and planned” withdrawal of their troops from Patrolling Point 15 in the Gogra-Hot Springs area of eastern Ladakh.
Both armies had agreed to withdraw from their positions to their respective sides of the LAC and then verify each other’s positions.
The two sides have now resolved all the issues that arose following the Chinese army’s aggression in the Pangong Lake areas in May 2020.
On September 15 and 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will be in Uzbekistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
The first SCO summit in person since 2019 will be closely watched for the possibility of bilateral meetings on the sidelines between Xi and other leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
It will be the first meeting between PM Modi and Xi Jinping since their meeting in Brasilia in 2019 on the sidelines of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) summit.
