Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the groundwork for Arunachal Pradesh’s first greenfield airport, the ‘Donyi Polo Airport’ in Holangi, Itanagar. The Airports Authority of India built the Donyi Polo airport for Rs 645 crore. At the event, he will also dedicate the 600 MW Kameng hydropower station to the nation in the West Kameng district.

PM Modi laid the groundwork for the Greenfield Airport at Hollongi and inaugurated the retrofitted Tezu airport in 2019. According to officials from the state’s civil aviation department, PM Modi will inaugurate the airport today and then fly to Varanasi and Gujarat. According to an official statement, the terminal at Hollongi was built at the cost of approximately Rs 955 crore and covered an area of 4100 square meters. It has a maximum capacity of 200 passengers per hour.

Arunachal Pradesh, the country’s easternmost state, has no airport. The nearest facility is at Lilabari airport in Assam’s North Lakhimpur district, which is 80 kilometers away. The state has a few advanced landing zones, including Pasighat and Tezu. Flights took off for the first time in 75 years at airports in five northeastern states: Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland.

The airport was built on over 690 acres at a cost of over Rs 640 crore. The airport’s 2,300-meter runway allows for all-weather operations. The airport terminal is a modern structure that promotes energy efficiency, renewable energy, and resource recycling.
