Two minor Dalit sisters were found hanging in Lakhimpur Kheri, U.P.

On Wednesday, two minor Dalit sisters, ages 15 and 17, were discovered hanging from a tree in a village within the Nighasan police station limits in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district.

According to the deceased’s family, three young men from a nearby village kidnapped the girls. The bodies were recovered by the police and sent for a post-mortem examination. They held a protest near the Nighasan crossing, a few kilometers from the village.

Due to the sensitivity of the case, Inspector-General of Police, Lucknow Range, Laxmi Singh, and Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sanjiv Suman, arrived at the scene with a large contingent of personnel and assured the villagers that the police would arrest the accused as soon as possible. They asked the villagers to end the protest and work with the district administration.

“The murder of two sisters in Lakhimpur Kheri is shocking,” Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Twitter, targeting the State government. According to the victim’s families, the deceased was kidnapped in broad daylight. Law and order will not improve simply by advertising in newspapers and television. The Samajwadi Party demanded harsh punishment for the perpetrators.
